A voluminous Variety of Vocations

In other words, I have had many a job, but doesn't the alliteration make it sound so much more fun?
I love trying out new opportunities, learning skills, and adding to my resume. Just the other day, I was able to attend a free Virtual Conference to add a new "badge" to my collection.  I enjoy working and I am proud to be able to help ease the fiscal burden in my household whenever I can.  Having children definitely complicates my mission and I always want to make sure that I am there for them and providing them the time and attention that they need as well, which means that some positions that I have just don't fit my current lifestyle, but I am thrilled to have experienced them.

"Why are you sharing this?"
Society asks teenagers to pick a career path often before they even have a chance to explore what is out there.  I hope by sharing my unorthodox path to pique the interest of anyone looking for a change or just starting out.

"But how many different positions could you have possibly tried?"
In this case, I am specifically talking about job titles and their tasks that I was paid to complete.  Yes, real live dollars could make their way to your pocket in these positions, or at least it worked for me. (I make no promises.) While I have had many different positions, you might notice that they seem to cluster around a few different fields: education, theatre, sales, and marketing.  I have also found some of these positions contain overlap between these areas.  Here are the titles and a little introduction to these opportunities.
Education - As of 2021, I completed my second M.A. in education which does help, however my earliest venture into this field was in 2004.
  • Tutor - Trained by The Princeton Review to tutor students in ACT prep, I have also tutored students in everything from elementary reading to college mathematics.
  • Resident Assistant - That student in the residence hall that most know for breaking up parties, but is actually so much more!
  • Resident Director - The grown up version of the R.A. in charge of supervising the student staff.
  • Substitute Teacher - Amazing opportunity for those thinking of switching to teaching because you can experience every type of classroom K-12 and decide which age group and what subjects you most enjoy.
  • Standardized Patient - This position which combines education, science, and acting skills to help in training medical professionals.
  • College Lab Instructor - So excited to have this opportunity since most schools require you to have a terminal degree.

Theatre - Yes, really and I did not go to L.A. or New York.
  • Stage Manager - Loving schedules and color-coding can be an asset here as you keep actors on task during the rehearsal and performance process.
  • Improv Troupe - Have you seen "Whose Line Is It Anyway?"?
  • Director - This person is tasked with steering a group of performers and technicians to create a cohesive piece of art.
  • Actor - Stage, screen, voice, or commercial.
  • Assistant Electrician - This person helps to run and repair everything that is... you guessed it - electric, in theatrical productions, most notably, the lighting.
  • Assistant Rigger - Have you ever seen lights, speakers, or set pieces hung from the ceiling for any performance?  This position makes that happen safely.
  • Stage Hand - Someone hired to work backstage short or long term.  This can be further specialized by department.

Sales - They say everyone is selling something.  I will delve into these deeper in future posts.  Suffice it to say, things and services were provided and money was paid.
  • Target
  • Twin Towers Product Demonstrator
  • Dixon Golf
  • Multilevel Marketing (Dove Chocolate Discoveries, Pure Romance, RevitalU, Java Momma, It Works, Damsel in Defense)
  • Feld Consumer Products
  • Banker/Teller
  • Telemarketer

Marketing - These creative positions plant the idea for future sales in a target audience for a particular client.
  • Brand Ambassador - It helps to be outgoing and a quick study so you can accurately relay product information to consumers. (It can be way more fun than it sounds.)
  • Promotional Model - Like a Brand Ambassador, but the client is requesting a specific look.
  • Model - Follow directions and pose for pictures.  Sounds easy, doesn't it...
  • Social Media Marketing Manager - Help businesses increase sales by creating content for them on a variety of social media platforms.
  • Market Manager - This position oversees events throughout a marketing campaign and supervises B.A.s or Promo Models.

This is just my experience thus far.  I am hoping to share more about this variety of opportunities and one day I hope to add writer to my list.  Maybe even blogger???
Day 2 of 30 complete!  Time to go wash the babies and relax with a few episodes of Below Deck which contains other fun gigs that maybe I'll try one day...
